Cyber Monday 2019: Tips, Trends & Questions answered
When is Cyber Monday?
With Black Friday Falling on November 29, Cyber Monday, the year’s biggest digital shopping day , gets pushed to Monday, December 2, leaving only 23 days until Christmas. No worries, though. On Cyber Monday, hundreds of retailers will be standing by with exclusive digital deals for everyone on your holiday shopping list.
Traditionally falling on the Monday after Black Friday, Cyber Monday’s origins go back almost 15 years. The term was coined in 2005 during the early days of internet shopping by Shop.org, the new digital shopping division of the National Retail Federation. It was created as a way for online retailers get in on the Black Friday shopping bonanza. It worked better than anyone at the time could have imagined. Cyber Monday sales have continued to grow every year since its inception, growing for $484 million in 2005 to $7.9 billion in 2018.
In 2018, Cyber Monday sales reached almost $8 billion according to Adobe Analytics increasing almost 20% year over year. And Deloitte’s annual Holiday spending survey says 2019 could be even bigger. In the survey, shoppers say they this year they are more likely to rely on Cyber Monday than Black Friday—and this cuts across all age groups, from cyber savvy millennials to seniors. In fact, the survey indicates that shoppers expect to spend more of their holiday budget online (59%) than in store.
The Best Cyber Monday Deals
With the shorter post-Thanksgiving holiday shopping season, expect early Cyber Monday deals to hit as soon as the evening of Black Friday and continue through the weekend. Some online retailers have taken things one step further and extended Cyber Monday into Cyber Week with a flood of different daily deals.
According to Tech Radar, history is the best indicator of where you’ll find the best deals and biggest price drops. And, once again, this year game consoles like the PS4, XBox One and Nintendo, smart phones, 4K TVs, action cameras like GoPro and other tech gadgets may lead the way. You can also find great deals on toys and games. Some argue you can find better toy deals closer as Christmas gets closer, but you may also find that the toy you're looking for is sold out.
Supplies are limited!
As with their brick and mortar doorbusting counterparts, according to Inc. Magazine some of the best Cyber Monday deals are released in limited quantities, and can be gone faster than you can say Jeff Bezos. To get the deals you really want you need to plan ahead. Scout out your favorite retailers early—many will release their deals ahead of time.
Tech shopping tip: If you don’t have to have the latest and greatest device, you’ll often find the deepest discounts on older product models, for example, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus have been out for over a year and half. The same is true of 4K televisions and other slightly older technology.
