ALERT: Communication for customers impacted by the natural disasters.

Our thoughts are with those affected by the natural disasters. We are here to help customers who've been impacted and contact us by evaluating:

  • waiving of certain fees

In times like these, people come together to help those in need.  At Synchrony, it’s our job not only to help our customers every day – but also when disasters like these strike.

12 Ways To Prep Your Home Before Vacation

12 Ways To Prep Your Home Before Vacation

The countdown is on and you’re just days away from that trip you’ve been anticipating for months. As you pack your bags, book your cab, and charge your phone, don’t forget your house! You’ve got to come back sometime, and the last thing you want to do is deal with a home disaster upon return. Consider these 12 essentials before you hit the road to ensure you come home happy.

Changing batteries in smoke detector

  1. Invest in a professionally monitored home security system, or install a smart security camera you can keep track of yourself. While you’re at it, upgrade your lighting and front door lock to smart devices — allowing you to remotely control home access (think friends getting your mail or walking your pets) and appearance while you’re gone.

  2. Check and replace batteries on all your home security devices — including motion sensor cameras, lights, and smoke detectors.

  3. Unplug any electronics and appliances that don’t need power while you’re gone, lowering the risk of fire.

  4. Avoid broadcasting your absence by freezing newspaper or mail delivery, or ask a trusted friend to bring these items in regularly.

  5. Check the locks on each of your doors and windows, especially those on the first floor.

Making a bed

  1. Wash, dry, and put away any stray laundry, especially your sheets. Coming home to a pile of laundry or an unmade bed is a recipe for post-vacation letdown.

  2. Clean out your fridge of any immediately perishable items. If anything can be donated or shared with friends, go that route before throwing away food (banana bread, anyone?).

  3. On the topic of food, make sure to plan for your return. If you’re coming back late at night and have to work early the next day, be sure you have something handy to eat. An extra stop at the grocery won’t be the homecoming you were hoping for.

  4. Take out the trash. No one wants to come home to garbage.

  5. Ensure your pets and plants are cared for. While your plants can likely survive with a DIY drip system in place, your pets probably need more help. Ask a trusted friend to feed and walk them, or arrange for a boarding service or house sitter.

Adjusting a thermostat

  1. Wash, dry, and put away any stray laundry, especially your sheets. Coming home to a pile of laundry or an unmade bed is a recipe for post-vacation letdown.

  2. Put your water heater on vacation mode, check for any dripping faucets, or shut off water to sinks and toilets. This way, you can save money on unused water, while also allowing for a smart sprinkler system to run during your time away. Bon voyage!
